The significance of spectrum on operator businesses

Implications on capex and profitability

The breakthrough for mobile broadband has intensified the competition on the access market making spectrum to a key asset. The aim with this project is to evaluate the significance of spectrum on operators businesses, and explore the implications on capex and profitability by modeling the relationship between engineering and strategic value of spectrum.

The project addresses how spectrum aggregation and network sharing solutions can contribute to operator profitability. The project strives to provide input to methodology and principles for valuation of spectrum, and the development of spectrum strategies. Moreover, it is also relevant for regulators as the analysis approach could be used to analyze how different types of spectrum allocation strategies influence operator decisions and businesses.

More about our Research

top_mobil1_thumbIN BRIEF The main research focus of Wireless@KTH is to solve key technical problems in systems in Infrastructure for Mobile Services and Systems for Mobile Service of tomorrow. Not only physical constraints  (i.e. physics of radio propagation, capacity limitations in networks etc) are considered in our research  In designing future systems for mobile service, end-user and service provider demands, constraints and business logic also have to be modeled and considered to make an adequate and sustainable technical design.
